Polyethylene plastics are versatile materials for storing and transporting a wide array of liquid and gas materials. Manufacturers prefer it for its FDA approval for carrying consumable food and beverage goods, its insulative properties, and its durability. At Plastic Design Inc., we specialize in fabricating three popular types of polyethylene plastic—HDPE, LDPE, and UHMWPE—for use across multiple different industries. Our organization has been committed to high-quality fabrication and machining services for over 45 years, and our company is ISO 9001:2015 certified and IPCA 620 certified. Our Capabilities in Polyethylene Machining

Polyethylene plastics come in many forms and specialty grades for diverse applications. At Plastic Design Co., we operate in-house CNC machining centers for fabricating plastics, creating prototypes, and managing full-service production runs of low and high volumes. Our engineering team and technicians can fabricate sheets, rods, and custom shapes up to 12 feet long and 5 feet wide. We use state-of-the-art CNC machines for cutting, milling, drilling, turning, and grinding services within extremely tight tolerances for designs of any complexity level.

Fabricated polyethylene products are available as:

  • Sheets of up to 12’x5′
  • Either round or triangular welding rods
  • Both flexible and rigid tubing

Our specially fabricated polyethylene options include:

  • Pipe-grade polyethylenes, which are suitable for use in long-term outdoor applications
  • SEABOARD™ UV-stable HDPE sheets for marine or outdoor applications that need resistance to brine and sunlight
  • High-density, FDA-approved Sanatec plastic for food processing applications that require long-lasting, low-maintenance, and safe plastics

Types of Polyethylene

We specialize in three types of polyethylene plastics for machining projects.

HDPE

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a very strong and sturdy polyethylene material. Its molecular structure has minimal branching, resulting in a stronger and stiffer feel despite being only slightly denser than LDPE. Many types of HDPE materials comply with FDA and USDA standards.

LDPE

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) has a slightly lower density than HDPE but has a molecular structure with a lot of branching, making it much more flexible and giving it a lower level of tensile strength. It is an affordable alternative for applications that don’t demand strength.

UHMWPE

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is an incredibly strong and durable material. Due to its high-density molecular structure, it has the following attributes:

  • High resistance to chemical damage
  • Low coefficient of friction, making it self-lubricating
  • Abrasion resistance
  • High impact strength
  • Very low moisture absorption risk

Polyethylene Products

Our machining teams can develop products made for use across a wide variety of sectors and industries. Some of the most popular applications we produce polyethylene products for include the following:

  • Chemical handling equipment and components
  • Custom plastic tanks
  • Wet process and semi equipment
    • Process baths
    • Cleaners
    • Rinsers
  • Clean room essentials
    • Gowning and dispensing equipment
    • Shoe management
    • Carsts/dollies
    • Bottle washing
  • Bio products
    • Dispensers
    • Gowning cabinets
    • Laundry bins
