What is a Cleanroom?

A cleanroom is a controlled environment designed to minimize the presence of dust, aerosol particles, airborne microbes, and other contaminants. These sterile spaces are required for performing many types of sensitive processes. Cleanrooms are used throughout diverse industries for tasks like building electronics, packaging pharmaceuticals, automotive manufacturing, and much more.

At Plastic Design, Inc. we offer a wide selection of cleanroom equipment to meet virtually any industry requirement. Our product offerings include everything from access panels to furniture, automatic bottle-washing equipment, and much more. Below you’ll find an overview of our solutions with links to product pages for more detailed information.

Cleanroom Capabilities

Cleanrooms are designed to maintain extremely low particulate levels. They use a variety of products to filter out everything from dust to vaporized particles and airborne organisms. Some of the most common cleanroom capabilities include:

  • Air control:
Cleanrooms keep the concentration of airborne particles within specified limits. This is achieved through the use of HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) or ULPA (ultra-low penetration air) filters along with regular air changes.
  • Clean internal surfaces:
The inside of a cleanroom and the equipment it contains are designed to accumulate minimal particulates and be easy to clean.
  • Operational controls:
Cleanrooms deliver several operational controls for reducing particles, including controls for how particles are introduced, generated, and retained.
  • Diverse designs:
Cleanrooms are highly customizable, facilitating individualized design features like filter coverage percentage, filter efficiency, ceiling type, light fixture type, wall and floor system type, and more.

At Plastic Design, Inc., we support all of these capabilities with easy-to-sterilize products that can be custom-designed to efficiently fit within your cleanroom’s space.

Industries that Utilize Cleanroom Equipment

Many industries perform tasks that would be harmed by contamination from small particles. Some of the most common industry uses for cleanrooms include:

Pharmaceutical

Cleanrooms create a controlled environment for producing and packaging drugs, vaccines, and biomedical devices.

Life sciences

Cross-contamination is a serious issue for science experiments. Cleanrooms with interlocking anterooms create a high-quality, controlled space.

Medical device manufacturing

Cleanrooms play a critical role in the manufacturing of medical devices. They help to maintain the required pressure, humidity, temperature, and airborne particulate levels.

Semiconductor

Due to the sensitive and delicate nature of semiconductor chips, a highly regulated manufacturing environment is required. Cleanrooms used for semiconductor manufacturing rely on super-fine filters to remove particulates, as well as carefully controlled pressure conditions.

Hospital and healthcare facilities

Patients with delicate immune systems or those recovering from surgery benefit from the safe environment cleanrooms create.

Benefits of Cleanrooms

Besides limiting the amount of airborne particles, cleanrooms deliver many additional benefits:

  • Industry compliance:
Certified and validated cleanrooms help many types of businesses adhere to industry-specific standards.
  • Improve product ranking and brand reputation:
Minimizing contaminants and controlling environmental factors during production helps brands create more effective products with an improved component lifespan.
  • Allow for experimental procedures:
Cleanrooms create the sterile environment needed for medical and technological experiments, fueling innovation.
  • Delivers custom solutions to unique problems:
In addition to controlling airborne particles, cleanrooms also allow businesses to regulate temperature, humidity, static, biological particles, ESD, and other harmful environmental factors.

To get the most out of your cleanroom, start with expertly designed products developed to improve how you work within your space. Cleanroom equipment from Plastic Design, Inc. can keep your environment better organized and easier to clean.
