Precise manufacturing operations often require equipment that can be regularly subjected to harsh and aggressive chemicals. Plastic tanks for holding liquids or chemicals need to be designed using carefully selected materials to ensure durability and longevity.

For the past 42 years, Plastic Design Inc. has provided custom tank fabrication services for hundreds of clients across numerous industries. Utilizing the latest automated fabrication equipment and computer-aided design tools, Plastic Design Inc. can manufacture custom storage tanks in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for any application. Our engineers and technicians go beyond the services offered by typical plastic tank manufacturers, working together with you to create custom-built plastic tanks to suit your unique design requirements.

Available Products

We custom manufacture a broad range of durable and chemically resistant industrial tank systems for almost any industrial application and environment. Here are just some of the custom tank systems that we offer:

  • Plastic Tanks: We can fabricate generic plastic tanks of virtually any size, shape, or thickness for almost any application. We work closely with our clients to build solutions that meet target specifications.
  • Holding Tanks: Our custom holding tanks can be fabricated in any configuration to accommodate various fluid storage needs. Our engineering team designs each holding tank while carefully considering fluid weight, stress distributions, and other structural loads.
  • Fabricated Day Tanks: These tanks are manufactured especially for research applications within the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. They are designed to withstand corrosive and harsh chemicals, thereby preventing the leaching of contaminants.
  • Batch Mixing Tanks: Designed for the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, our batch mixing tanks operate with closed loop filtration and auto-fill systems. These tanks are also built with a variety of integrated mixing systems.
  • Double Containment Tanks: Our double containment tank systems are designed to store hazardous materials and withstand harsh conditions such as extreme temperatures and pressures. All plumbing is installed externally to comply with industry-specific standards.
  • Closed Loop Filtration Tanks: These tanks are custom designed to be integrated with various pumps including positive displacement and centrifugal pumping systems.
  • Plating Tanks: We manufacture highly versatile plating tanks that can be used for a range of applications. These tanks can also be integrated with temperature and power control systems.
  • Fabricated Temperature Controlled Process Tanks: Our temperature-controlled tanks are built specifically for operation in a wide range of temperatures (sub-ambient to extreme). These tank systems allow for precise temperature control within 0.5o C.

One of the most critical properties of industrial tanks systems and products is chemical compatibility. Our engineers carefully analyze each application to determine the most feasible tank, fitting, and gasket material. We typically work with a broad range of plastic materials including ABS, HDPE, UHMW, PVC, PTFE, PVDF, and polypropylene. We also specialize in the custom fabrication of stainless steel tanks.

Applications

Our custom built plastic water tanks, polypropylene water tanks, storage tanks, high temperature plastic tanks, and other fabricated tanks have been used successfully in a wide range of applications, including:

Biomedical and Pharmaceutical

In the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, tanks are regularly used to store, mix, and drain chemicals and chemical compounds. These tanks must be able to safely handle these chemicals while keeping them free from contamination and leaching. Systems including single use to USP Class 6 certification can be constructed to fit any needs.

Traditionally, stainless steel tanks have been used for chemical storage due to the misconception that resins in poly-based storage tanks could lead to corrosion, leaching, and bacterial growth. However, the industry has since learned that these risks are easily mitigated through choosing the correct plastic material for the chemical being handled. In addition, stainless steel tanks require costly protective coatings and regular maintenance, and seams and welding points in steel tanks are usually the first targets for chemical attack, pitting, and crevice corrosion.

Plastic Design Inc.’s engineers analyze every situation to determine the most feasible polymer based on the expected chemical exposure. Advanced butt-fusion welding and extrusion welding techniques are used to seamlessly assemble uniform structures of various configurations with the same level of performance as a monolithic tank.

We also provide a range of related biomedical and pharmaceutical equipment such as hazardous waste handling systems, storage cabinets, custom containment tanks, and custom plating tanks to meet the specifications of any biomedical or pharma application.

Semiconductor Applications

Tanks in the semiconductor industry serve several purposes during the manufacture of components used in circuitry and electronics. These procedures frequently subject the tanks to hot gases, corrosive chemicals, and high pressures. Our chemical storage tanks and acid drum storage tanks are highly resistant to chemical corrosion and safe for use in clean rooms. At Plastic Design Inc., we specialize in manufacturing high-quality custom tanks from highly inert plastics to withstand the rigors of the semiconductor industry.

We also offer several wet process tools and additional equipment, including wet benches, vessels for chemical delivery systems, mixing systems, pumping stations, and other custom plastic solutions used in semiconductor manufacturing.

Materials

All plastics are not created equal. Some polymers may be resistant to one chemical while being vulnerable to another. Our qualified engineering team understands the compatibility of our custom plastic tanks with chemicals used in various industries. We work closely with you to select the most appropriate tank, fitting, and gasket materials for your specific application. We stock an assortment of materials ready to be used in our custom tanks and fittings, including ABS, HDPE, UHMW, PVC, PTFE, PVDF, and polypropylene.

At Plastic Design Inc. our processes and procedures are fully ISO 9001: 2015 certified to provide our customers with the highest possible custom plastic tank designs. Our state-of-the-art facility, tools, and equipment can mass produce products to meet or exceed a range of industry specifications, including Factory Mutual, Semi, NFPA, and OSHA. Additionally, our engineers are available for on-site surveys and evaluations of your existing systems to assist you in determining possible solutions and modifications.
